Policies for Human Resource Development

To us, the ideal human resources are individuals who can think and act independently, are sincere, and uphold honesty. We seek employees who are proactive in learning new things, enhancing their professional insight, and valuing teamwork over individualism. Given that the products we handle are medical devices crucial to patients’ lives, we bear the responsibility of providing accurate information to medical professionals. This necessitates continuously acquiring the latest knowledge and gaining diverse field experiences. To adapt promptly to the evolving conditions of the medical field, it is essential for not only individuals but also the entire company to support one another as a cohesive team. I believe that our growth and the trust we have earned from medical professionals are due to each employee embodying these principles. We will continue to uphold our vision for human resources, focusing on development and maintaining our strengths in both personnel and organizational aspects.

Systems for Human Resource Development

Our comprehensive training program is designed to enhance employees’ abilities and skills, tailored to their career stage, position, age, and other relevant factors. This approach fosters individual growth and supports career development. Employees can participate in job-specific training courses, and the program also encourages self-directed learning through e-learning platforms, enabling them to develop their skills at their own pace.

JLL has consistently taken a proactive approach to hiring a diverse mix of talent, including new graduates,mid-career professionals from both within and outside the industry, and women across various job types.

In addition to our existing training programs, we have launched new initiatives aimed at accelerating talent development from various perspectives. We offer training in essential business skills for young and mid-level employees as they transition into team leader or managerial roles. This program brings together employees from diverse job functions and levels across JLL, allowing them to spend time together over a set period. This approach fosters mutual understanding and revitalization by building cross-departmental networks.

Education and Training System

Optimizing Talent Placement

For new graduates, we determine assignments after they undergo on-site training across multiple departments, considering their aptitudes and preferences. Once assigned, they receive guidance from senior employees in other departments who are close in age or tenure, acting as mentors and providing support through regular trust-building sessions. To broaden their experience, we encourage active job rotations within the company for a certain period after their initial assignment.

To further support employees in pursuing autonomous career development, we have established an internal recruitment system and a self-application process, allowing employees to express their transfer preferences. These systems offer opportunities for voluntary growth through career changes, such as working in unfamiliar departments or new business areas and help us optimize the allocation of human resources.

Support for Specialized Knowledge Acquisition

As we handle highly controlled medical devices, our employees, who sell and develop products, need to acquire specialized knowledge.

In particular, employees involved in the sale and marketing of implantable medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), which are our core products, are required to obtain CDR* certification. We maintain a high certification test pass rate by having established a systematic in-house education system and providing follow-up training that corresponds to the level of each examinee. As of June 30, 2023, 353 employees (37% of the Company’s employees) have obtained CDR certification to provide support for the proper and safe use of products at medical sites throughout Japan.

* Cardiac Device Representative (CDR): An expert who possesses specialized knowledge and skills that provides information on medical devices and medical technology including cardiac pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD). The certifying body for CDR certification is the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society.

We Hear the Employees’ Feedback

At JLL, we conduct an employee satisfaction survey for all staff to understand their perceptions of their work, workplace, and the company as a whole. The second survey, conducted in FY3/2024, achieved a 94.5% response rate, marking a 1.4-point increase from the previous year. While the overall scores were above average, the survey also highlighted several areas for improvement through data analysis.

The survey results were presented to the Board of Directors and other relevant meetings. Detailed feedback was shared at the divisional level, where each division discussed the identified issues and developed action plans for improvement. Additionally, the Human Resources Department spearheaded a review of company-wide system-related issues to address broader concerns.

Self-assessment System

Each year, we offer all employees the opportunity to self-assess their performance.

A questionnaire-style "communication sheet" is set up on the intranet for employees to answer questions about their future career, transfer requests, training, and desires for the company and workplace in a name-only format.

The aggregate results are reported to Operating Officers, also Board Directors and are also used as a reference in personnel system and organizational changes, as well as personnel transfers.

In addition, through the "internal recruitment system," we provide opportunities to take on challenges in other departments and positions, ranging from sales to marketing, development and manufacturing, pharmaceutical affairs, and administration.
